Biography

Alexandre Léonard obtained his Ph.D. in Sciences in 2005 at the University of Namur, with as a subject the synthesis and characterization of novel inorganic materials with hierarchical porosity. He then continued his activities as 'Chargé de Recherches FNRS' on the immobilization of cyanobacteria within porous silica gels aiming at producing photobioreactors. In 2010, he joined the Research Unit of Chemical Engineering at the University of Liège where he worked on the development of porous carbons to be used as anodes for Li-ion batteries, within the framework of a European FP7 project. He then continued research activities on both the development of water-based routes for the production of electrodes and the establishment of correlations between pore texture and electrochemical behavior of highly structured carbons as anodes for Li-ion batteries. Along these years, he was also responsible of the gas adsorption and mercury intrusion porosimeters.

In 2020, Alexandre Léonard was hired as research logistician in charge of the management of the newly created CARPOR platform at the Research Unit of Chemical Engineering. His tasks consist in managing all the scientific, technical, logistical and financial aspects of a pool of cutting-edge equipment including Gas adsorption-desorption, Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry, Pycnometries, X-Ray micro-and macrotomographs, Dynamic vapor sorption, Moisture analyzer and Thermogravimetry-Differential scanning calorimetry.
