FRITCO2T

FRITCO₂T (Federation of Researchers in Innovative Technologies for CO₂ Transformation) is a technological platform dedicated to CO₂ at the University of Liège. It is resulting from the decision of four research laboratories to join their forces to accelerate the development of CO₂ technologies and materials.

Resulting from the pressing environmental concerns, we think it is urgent to develop new technologies and new products enabling the capture and re-use of CO₂ emissions in the benefit of the society. From the first CO₂ projects conducted at ULiège about 20 years ago, our 4 research units distributed over 3 faculties, have developped complementary high-level expertises, positionning FRITCO₂T at the cutting edge of this domain.

In november 2017, ULiège became a founding member of a New European Association dedicated to CO₂ valorization, in which Industry and research stakeholders unite to develop innovative CO₂ utilization solutions: CO₂ Value Europe.

The FRITCO₂T platform is composed of the four following research groups:

• Urban and Environmental Engineering (UEE, Faculty of Applied Sciences) studies the carbonatation of construction materials (concrete, bio-based materials, recycled aggregates…).

• The Centre for Education and Research on macromolecules (CERM, Faculty of Sciences) works on the use of CO₂ for the synthesis and manufacturing of polymer materials.

• The Laboratoire de Technologie Pharmaceutique et de Biopharmacie (LTPB, Faculty of Medicine) studies the use of supercritical CO₂ for the formulation of drugs and the development of analytical methods.
• The Department of Chemical Engineering, (DCE, Faculty of Applied Sciences) studies the capture and re-use CO₂ and develops power-to-fuel applications. It also performs life cycle assessments and techno-economic analyses of studied technologies.

Thanks to the technological platform FRITCO₂T, ULiège positions itself as a pioneer in the research for new technologies and products related to CO₂.
