BioDrugHybrid

BioDrugHybrid : Development and Characterization of Inorganic–Polymer Composites for the Delivery of Biopharmaceutical Drugs. Collaboration with Prof. Christian Grandfils, Centre Interfacultaire de Biomatériaux.

The ultimate goal of this project is to develop by 3D printing, biopharmaceutical inorganic–polymer composites for drug delivery. To reach this goal, different steps should be considered:
(i) Preparation and characterization of hydroxyapatite porous powders and study of the immobilization of biopharmaceutical drugs inside inorganic powders;
(ii) Hot melt extrusion of hybrids «active agent/nanoclay» with polyesters to produce thermoplastic filaments ;
(iii) Production of 3D implants by 3D thermodeposition from thermoplastic filaments; (iv) Study of release of drugs from 3D implants ; (v) Sterilization of 3D implants.

No report has mentioned the possibility to combine biopharmaceutical drugs within mesoporous ceramics for the purpose to improve their stability and their release rate after their polymer blending by hot melt extrusion and 3D printing techniques. Accordingly the goals of this project should open to real innovative formulations.
